That is why we put together a list of recycling tips to help us take care of the Earth we all know and love. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Waste has a huge negative impact on our environment and when we recycle, we are conserving natural resources, preventing pollution and saving energy.

Here are our top ten recycling tips to help you do your part:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
1. Skip the shopping bags.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n We\u2019ve seen the trend in many grocery stores and we\u2019re sure many of you are already bringing your reusable bags with you do to your weekly shopping. There are so many fashion-forward bags made from recycled fabrics that do just the trick. But why stop there? You can say no to the paper and plastic bags offered by other stores too by bringing your own reusable bags to the pharmacy, mall and favorite clothing stores.\u00a0 2. Re-use your plastic containers.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This is especially true for your favorite skincare products. Most are the perfect size to re-use for storage and will look nice on your vanities (think bobby pins, cotton rounds, makeup brushes, etc.). If you\u2019re into plants, succulents are just the right ones to plant in your empty jars and leave around your home.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n 3. Invest in a few reusable water bottles and travel coffee mugs.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n These <\/em>will come in handy at work, at the gym and when you are on the go. Instead of plastic water bottles, fill your reusable water bottle before you leave home. If you are one to purchase coffee out, don\u2019t forget your travel mug. Your go-to coffee shop should be able to skip the paper cup, fill your travel mug and send you on your way.\u00a0 4. Plan your meals.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n An easy way to ensure you are reducing waste is planning your meals in advance and shopping only for the things you need. Before making your grocery list, see what you have home that you can cook for the week ahead. With the meals you choose to buy for, see what ingredients can be used for multiple dishes. For those you make, think about any creative ways to re-invent them for leftovers.\u00a0 5. Empty. Clean. Dry.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n When it comes to recycling, tuhere is no need to fully wash your items with soap and water but be sure to empty any contents out into the trash, clean them with a simple rinse and make sure they are dry before putting them into your recycling bin. It is important to keep your recyclables\u00a0 free of food and liquids so that other items do not become contaminated and unrecyclable.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n 6. Know your categories.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Your communities may have their own rules when it comes to trash and recycling pickups. Generally, there are four categories: paper\/cardboard, glass, plastic and cans. You can purchase bins and and label them for easy separation. It may be easier at home but if you can do so at work too, it really will make a difference. Be mindful not to bag your recyclables but keep them loose in each recycling container as the bag can get caught in the machinery when it comes time to break down the items.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n 7. Electronics can be recycled too.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Electronics are full of valuable materials which can be recycled. When this type of waste is put into landfills, there are chemicals that get into soil, water and air. Most big retailers will take these items back, but if you are unsure, you can look up other places in your area.\u00a0 8. Research local organizations.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Schools and hospitals often collect items in order to \u2018up-cycle\u2019 them into pieces of art for their establishments as well as benches and playgrounds. Everyday items such as bottle caps, tissue boxes, plastic bottles etc. can be used in schools and hospitals for children\u2019s arts and crafts projects and they\u2019d very much appreciate your donations.\u00a0 9. Experiment with composting.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Adding compost improves soil structure, aeration and water retention in your garden. It is another way to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills. Bins are easy to order online and you can also pick one up at your local hardware or gardening store. The best materials for your compost include things like egg shells, coffee grinds, flower stems, and fruit and vegetable peels.\u00a0 10. Purchase post-consumer recycled goods.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n When being mindful about recycling, it is also important to purchase recycled goods when you can. By purchasing recycled goods, you are closing the loop on the recycling process. Companies make it much easier now to purchase recycled especially paper products such as notebooks, gift bags, greeting cards. We are doing our part to care for the environment and invite you to join us. We launched our S.T.E.M Recycling Program to ensure proper disposal of our product containers. Not only do we want our Adama Customers to collaborate with us to Save the Earth and Money (STEM), we want them to be rewarded for it. Thus, we\u2019ve created a store credit system for those that recycle with us.
